With more than 36 000 students and 8 400 employees, the University of Helsinki (UHel) is the largest university in Finland. The Department of Chemistry is the leading Finnish teaching and research unit in chemistry. It consists of three research programs. In Materials chemistry, ALD is an important research topic and the ALD group, led by Professors Markku Leskelä and Mikko Ritala, is a globally leading developer of new ALD precursors and processes. The group is leading the Finnish Center of Excellence in ALD, funded by the Academy of Finland for 2012 - 2017.
